High school wrestlers from four states converged on Athens Drive High School Friday to take part in the 40th annual WRAL High School Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
The 37-team event features teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia and provides wrestlers from standout teams the chance to compete against top flight competition.
Preliminary and first round matches got underway Friday afternoon and evening, with Jefferson High School (Ga.) pacing the field with 85 points. Parkland High School (83), Ocean Lakes High School (52.5), Pinecrest High School (50) and Jack Britt High School (48.5) rounded out the top five.
Parkland has won the last three WRAL tournaments.
Quarterfinal matches began Saturday at 8 a.m., and semi-finals will begin at 11. The 3rd, 5th and championship finals begin at 5 p.m. General admission is $10 on Saturday and $6 for the finals.
