Millbrook running back Keith Marshall can check off another accomplishment. Marshall was named Gatorade Player of the Year this week.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Marshall as North Carolina’s best high school football player.
Marshall is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award. The winner will be announced later this month.
At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Marshall rushed for 1,891 yards and 25 touchdowns on 258 carries this season.
Millbrook finished with a 6-6 overall record and Marshall was named the Cap 8 4-A Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Marshall has also been selected to the 2012 UnderArmour All-America Game.
Also a track standout, Marshall has maintained a 4.29 weighted GPA in the classroom. In addition to donating his time as a youth football instructor, he has volunteered at a local homeless shelter and on behalf of Habitat for Humanity.
