For some, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is a vacation from school or work and a time to spend with family. But for dozens of high school basketball teams, hundreds of players and thousands of fans, it is tournament week.
For years, players and fans have flocked to Raleigh's Broughton High School to see competitors including local schools and high-profile recruits committed to Duke, the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University.
This year, the tournament takes on a new name and a whole new feel.
What was for years known as the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational, or simply just the Glaxo, is now the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational!
Play expands to five days this year and includes 32 teams – 20 boys teams and 12 girls teams.
Look for features on the teams and players online and on WRAL-TV starting in December.
Once the tournament begins, you can follow all the game action with live blogs and in-depth coverage exclusively on HighSchoolOT.com.
The tournament begins Dec. 26 with girls games at Cary Academy. Log on daily at 11 a.m. for a look at the key match-ups and featured players. We’ll wrap it up at night with highlights and analysis on a special edition of Hoops Headquarters from inside Broughton’s Holliday Gymnasium.
In between, you’ll get score updates, photos, video highlights and player and coach interviews on HighSchoolOT.com.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the non-profit Triangle Educational Advancement Foundation. The foundation gives five thousand dollar scholarships to ten Triangle area students each year to help them get a head start on a college education.
Join us for the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational!
