A trio of Duke women's soccer freshmen -- Mollie Pathman, Meghan Thomas and Katie Walter -- have been named to the ESPN RISE Spring All-America team.
The All-America team is compiled by ESPN RISE using a combination of players' high school performance, coaching and media recommendations and recruiting details, and includes only players whose high school teams compete during the spring season.
Pathman is coming off traveling to Germany for the U-20 World Cup over the summer where she represented the U.S. that advanced to the quarterfinals. Over her career at Durham Academy, she notched 130 goals and 65 assists. A product of Durham, N.C., Pathman was the 2010 Gatorade H.S. Player of the Year after posting 29 goals and 10 assists in only 13 matches.
A product of Castle Rock, Colo., Thomas was a Colorado All-State First Team, Colorado Class 5A All-Star Team, Continental League Player of the Year, Continental League First Team and All-Academic First Team as a senior at Regis Jesuit H.S. The 6-2 goalkeeper notched eight shutouts as a senior and guided Regis Jesuit to its first 5A Tournament win in school history.
Walter, who is a product of Chapel Hill, N.C., is a three-time All-State selection and received All-Region and All-Conference accolades as a senior for East Chapel Hill H.S. As a senior, she notched six goals and two assists before being injured midway through the season.
Duke kicked off practice on Wednesday morning and will kick off exhibition action on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m., against UNC Greensboro. Duke will officially start the regular season on August 20 with a non-conference contest against Georgia in Athens, Ga. Overall, Duke will feature 11 home contests in 2009 at Koskinen Stadium, including the home opener on Sept. 2 against Francis Marion at 7:00 p.m.
