Quarterback battle undecided at Cary

Cary head football coach Ben Kolstad said Friday that the Imps' quarterback battle is ongoing.

Returning senior Nick Lansing was the starting quarterback last season for Cary. Rising junior Connor Chase led the junior varsity team to a successful season last year.

"Nothing has been decided," Kolstad said. "We had our camp this week and things are neck and neck right now."

Kolstad said the competition is a good thing because it pushes them both at practice.

"In fact, this year we've got a lot of guys competing for spots, and that's pushing the whole team," Kolstad said.

Football practice officially starts on Monday in North Carolina. Cary will open the season on Aug. 20, at Broughton.

Actually, I do know what I am talking about. Read back through many of your postings throughout this website. You made quite a few disparaging remarks about last years QB.

Cary never throws the ball - even back when they had QB's who could. Thus resulting in not having any great QB/WR duo's. But I think you should step back for a bit and back off of the insults to Nick. We are talking about a student at a public school! And CC, one game does not a Varsity QB make. Varsity is a big step from JV. And a true QB leads on and off the field, not trashing teammates etc on the web. It doesn't say much when the coach is still debating who to start. If the rising Junior was so superior, there would be no question. Ha wouldn't it be funny if someone else was named QB! You never know, stranger things have happened. Just wishing all of my Cary Boys much luck this season.

Sounds like a QB switch might be in the plans for Cary. I'd still like to see Lansing get his shot. I think as a senior he at least deserves that. I'd also like to see Cary open the passing game up some. If this new QB can do that then so be it. Either way I'm looking forward to some football and I think Cary is going to be pretty good this year in both football and basketball.

i went to Cary last year, and the whole season everyone was waiting for Kolstad to make the switch. The offense couldn't pass, while the back up QB was dominating on JV.

I didn't go the playoff game, but I did go to the last game of the regular season against Panther Creek. Cary blew that game big time. If I remember correctly, Cary had the ball within the 10 for a chance to win and they just kept trying the same type play over and over. I guess the coach felt it was the Lansing's fault or that he did something wrong that cost them the game. Maybe he did, but from what I saw it was the whole team to include (and espically) the coaches and the play calling.

They left out a big part of this story. Lansing was benched for Chase in the last week of the season for the play off game.

I hope they at least give the senior QB the start for the first few games to let him prove he can get it done. Then if he can't replace him with the junior.
