Cothron rescinds commitment to Pack

Mar 16, 2010

GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational: Apex vs. Flora MacDonald (Dec. 30, 2009)

Flora MacDonald's Luke Cothron enters the court in a game against Apex during the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational.

Red Springs Flora MacDonald forward Luke Cothron rescinded his commitment to N.C. State, Yahoo! Sports reported.

A call from WRAL to the school was not immediately returned.

Cothron, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward, was considered a soft verbal commitment. Verbal commitments are not binding, and after making a commitment, players are free to go else where. A decision does not become binding until a player signs a National Letter of Intent.

According to the report by Yahoo! Sports' Jerry Meyer, Alabama and Kentucky are places Cothron is likely to visit. In addition, the report says Connecticut, Ole Miss and Tennessee are schools Cothron is expected to look at.

Cothron is originally from Alabama.

In December, Flora MacDonald played in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational in Raleigh.

After the team lost to Apex in the third game of the tournament, a reporter asked Flora MacDonald head coach Derrick Bond about Cothron's performance.

"Lackadaisical, he played in spurts," Bond responded. "Every big time stud guards the other team's best player in crunch time. I have to hide him in crunch time."

"He's too skilled, too talented, his up-size is too tremendous to have to hide him."

According to Scout.com, Cothron is a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 13 power forward in the Class of 2010.

N.C. State already has two five-star prospects headed to Raleigh for next season. Point guard Ryan Harrow will join the Wolfpack from Marietta (Ga.) Walton, while shooting guard Lorenzo Brown will move to Raleigh after spending a year at Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy.

Harrow also participated in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational this past December, while Brown played in the tournament in 2008.

MarcoPolo, you're an idiot and everyone who reads your posts know it. I think you're a troll, so I won't bother debating you any more. When you said, "we'll have a new coach soon", that revealed you as a troll. Because anyone in their right mind knows that Sidney is NOT going to be replaced after winning 20 (and counting) games, 3 (and counting) in the postseason, and has an incredible recruiting class coming in next year.

Even Herb didn't get fired for winning only 13 games in his fifth season. That was because Julius Hodge was coming in the following year.

You think Sidney is going to be fired after winning 20 games in just his FOURTH season, with the recruits he has coming in?

Sorry bud, but NOT.A.CHANCE. If you think there is a chance of Sid getting fired ANY TIME SOON, you're an idiot. If you don't, then you're a troll for saying it.

If dude had a choice at chance at championship ring (KY, UConn who is visiting him this week, etc) or the ACC's b*^&^&, where would you go? Hello.

TBK,

You've got to let your personal friendship with Low go. It's completed jaded your opinion. Look at your posts dude. You're a loser.

If he was so terrible on and off the court, why did Low spend so much time recruiting him and making such a big deal in the media about his recruitment?

You have written dissertations on this website about Cothran and his recruiting class. Do we all have to go back and see that nonsense?

Your arguments really don't make any sense and with your attitude, State is doomed to suctitude. I'm not going to be spending anymore time helping you. You're too emotionally tied to Low. The good news is that we'll have a new head coach soon.

Harrow and his 5 year high school fininshing cousin is nothing to brag about.

Low's gotta go.

It's also quite possible that he's not going to qualify under ACC standards, and that's why he's looking at the SEC.

"i have to hide him in crunch time." ouch...if his high school coach is saying that, how will he perform against Div 1 high major talent? i don't think this is a major loss...best of luck to him in the SEC or wherever he goes.

I agree with JGunn. He has been talking to someone, maybe several. Young kids are easily influenced.

"TBK is trying to convince HIMSELF that this is ok. No one else cares."

I believe my very first post contained the following sentence: "As for Luke, I'm not going to say it's a positive..."

It's just not the worst news. I kind of thought something was turning south when he didn't sign his LOI back when Ryan Harrow did. Luke would make a fine addition to State's basketball team. But his position is not our area of need. And if this helps us get CJ Leslie, then it's a GREAT trade to make!

this is fine. Recruiting stars don't mean much. Just ask Roy and all his 5 star players he had on his team this year.....
