Flora MacDonald's Luke Cothron enters the court in a game against Apex during the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational.
Red Springs Flora MacDonald forward Luke Cothron rescinded his commitment to N.C. State, Yahoo! Sports reported.
A call from WRAL to the school was not immediately returned.
Cothron, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward, was considered a soft verbal commitment. Verbal commitments are not binding, and after making a commitment, players are free to go else where. A decision does not become binding until a player signs a National Letter of Intent.
According to the report by Yahoo! Sports' Jerry Meyer, Alabama and Kentucky are places Cothron is likely to visit. In addition, the report says Connecticut, Ole Miss and Tennessee are schools Cothron is expected to look at.
Cothron is originally from Alabama.
In December, Flora MacDonald played in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational in Raleigh.
After the team lost to Apex in the third game of the tournament, a reporter asked Flora MacDonald head coach Derrick Bond about Cothron's performance.
"Lackadaisical, he played in spurts," Bond responded. "Every big time stud guards the other team's best player in crunch time. I have to hide him in crunch time."
"He's too skilled, too talented, his up-size is too tremendous to have to hide him."
According to Scout.com, Cothron is a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 13 power forward in the Class of 2010.
N.C. State already has two five-star prospects headed to Raleigh for next season. Point guard Ryan Harrow will join the Wolfpack from Marietta (Ga.) Walton, while shooting guard Lorenzo Brown will move to Raleigh after spending a year at Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy.
Harrow also participated in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational this past December, while Brown played in the tournament in 2008.
