The Green Hope girls basketball team defeated Enloe 54-53 in the 4-A East Regional Final on Saturday to advance to the state championship for the first time in school history.
After collecting a five-point lead in the second half, Enloe tried to pull the ball out to draw Green Hope out of it's zone defense. But Green Hope went on a run of its own, claiming a one-point lead with 5:40 left in the game off a 3-pointer from Camille Forbes.
The Falcons got a three-point lead off a Kristen Gaffney lay-up on their next possession, and they maintained the three-point lead until Enloe cut it to one-point with 1:15 to go.
Green Hope led by as much as four points with less than a minute to go, but turnovers kept Enloe close.
The Falcons will advance to the state championship game where they will play Matthews Butler.
