Riverside jumped on Wakefield early in the N.C. High School Athletic Association sectional semifinal match-up on Wednesday as the Pirates cruised to a 77-64 win.
Wakefield fell behind as soon as the game started. Riverside jumped out to a 26-13 lead in the first quarter, but Wakefield didn't give up.
The Wolverines fought back in the second period, outscoring Riverside 17-10. Wakefield cut Riverside's lead to 36-30 going into the break.
But Riverside pulled away again in the third period.
The Pirates outscored Wakefield 19-13 in the third quarter, pushing their lead back to 12-points with just one quarter left in the game.
Wakefield's offense was able to score 21-points in the last quarter, but the defense couldn't get enough stops to keep Riverside from scoring.
Riverside outscored Wakefield in the fourth quarter as well, 22-21.
Riverside sophomore T.J. Warren led all scorers with 21-points on Wednesday night. Tim Raven added 19-points and David Mayer had 17-points for Riverside.
Sean Deniton was the last of four Pirates to score in double-figures against Wakefield. Deniton posted 10-points for Riverside.
Wakefield was led by Xavier Saddler-Mee with 19-points. Maurice Nash and Keith Armstrong scored 15 and 11-points respectively.
Riverside will advance to the sectional finals on Friday night when it will host Enloe.
The winner of the sectional final will advance to the regional semifinals next week in Greenville.
