Boys Basketball: Enloe vs. Wakefield (Feb. 18, 2010)

Enloe's Melvin Tabb looks to move to the basket against Wakefield. Jacob Lenox stepped in to provide defense in the Cap 7 semifinals on Feb. 18, 2010.

A number of local players have been named to the Carolina's All-Star Basketball Classic roster.

The Classic is in it's 13th year of placing top North Carolina boys and girls basketball players against their counterparts from South Carolina.

This year the event will be held in Myrtle Beach, S.C., from Mar. 18-20.

On Mar. 18, the event will begin with a banquet for all the participants. The banquet will be followed by a 3-point shootout and slam dunk competition on Mar. 19, then the boys and girls games on Mar. 20.

The shootout and slam dunk competition is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Myrtle Beach High School. The games will begin on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the girls and 8:30 p.m. for the boys. The games will be played Socastee High School.

Local girls players to make the roster include Keisha Gatling (Athens Drive), Rena Wakama (Wake Forest-Rolesville), and Breezy Williams-Suggs (Northern Durham).

Lakin Norris (Mitchell), Katie Paschal (Williamston), Quinyotta Pettaway (Perquimans), Shannon Smith (Forestview), Monet Tellier (East Mecklenburg), Clair Watkins (Butler), and Lindsy Kristin Wright (East Lincoln) round out the girls team.

The girls will be coached by Tim Raines, coach at C.D. Owens. Raines will be assisted by Dee Hardy of E.E. Smith.

On the boys side, Emanuel Chapman (Enloe), Stephon Drane (Garner) and Melvin Tabb (Enloe) will all represent the Triangle.

Completing the boys team is De'Mon Brooks (Hopewell), James Carlton (South Central), Jonathan Frye (Northern Guilford), Tashawn Mabry (Rocky Mount), Corey Riley Ross (Harding) and J.T. Terrell (West Charlotte).

Lloyd Church, the head coach at McDowell, will serve as the head boys coach for the North Carolina team. Cedar Ridge head coach Jim Pappas will also be an assistant on the boys team.

The South Carolina girls team, coached by Debbie Stroman of Lower Richland High School, includes Latifah Coleman (Central), Anicia Dotson (Daniel), Sarah Green (Irmo), Jasmine Harrison (Lower Richland), Jazzmine Johnson (Ridgeview), Chentich Ladson (West Ashley), Kim Roach (A.C.
