Fre'Shad Hunter, Cary - Recruiting

Cary defensive end Fre'Shad Hunter will not sign with N.C. State, Cary head coach Ben Kolstad told HighSchoolOT.com on Wednesday morning.

"He's not going to sign with them right now for various reasons," Kolstad said. "He's looking at possibly junior college, possibly something else."

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound lineman is a four-star prospect, according to Rivals.com. The recruiting Web site ranks Hunter as the 19th best defensive end in the Class of 2010 and the 11th best overall prospect in the state.

At his signing day press conference, Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien said he could not comment on players that have not signed with N.C. State, but he said they are still actively recruiting Hunter.

Hunter did not finish the season with the Imps after being suspended for the season in late October. At the time, Cary principal Doug Thilman told HighSchoolOT.com that Hunter faced the suspension for a violation of team rules. However, Hunter remained in school at Cary.

During his junior season, Hunter recorded 60 tackles and had seven sacks. Statistics for his senior season were not immediately available, but he played most of his senior season on the offensive line.

WE don't know why he was removed from the team-and it's non of our business. Hopefully, the young man can get his act together and get a quality education.

Too many athletes think college is their ticket to the NFL or NBA-not an education. Not many other than Tim Duncan or Tyler Hansborough have the insite to FINISH SCHOOL. That degree lasts forever.

Hope someone gets ahold of this young man and gets him some help so he can get into college and have a chance at a good education.

I wondered about this back when he was kicked off his high school team. Some recruiting websites (Rivals.com and/or Scout.com) were showing him as uncommitted rather than verbally committed to NC State. A lot of State fans were questioning was he still committed? And did TOB still WANT this kid, presuming he may be more trouble than he's worth.

Hopefully, he'll get his act together at a junior college and join the Pack in a year or two.
