Frank Price, Holly Springs LAX player to sign with UVA
The 2009-2010 academic year will mark the first season that high school lacrosse for both boys and girls, will be a North Carolina State sanctioned high school sport.
This area’s growth in lacrosse is one of the strongest in the state and fueled by the success and notoriety of two of the top collegiate lacrosse teams in the country: Duke University and UNC at Chapel Hill.
On November 12th 2009 Frank W. Price II of Holly Springs High School, will sign a national letter of intent to play for the University of Virginia in 2010, one of the top five powerhouse college lacrosse teams in the country.
Frank is an outstanding representative of this state’s rising level of lacrosse talent. Holly Springs High School, like so many others in North Carolina is a relatively new school.
The lacrosse team is approaching its fourth season and became a strong contender early on, as the Golden Hawks won their conference title in only the second year of existence. They became the youngest program in NC to make post season play. Frank Price has been a major contributor to the Hawk’s success and has been honored as a two time 1st Team All State player in NC (sophomore and junior years) as well as a 2009 NC All American as a junior.
“Frank is a dominant open field long-stick midi that combines the essentials of a physical ground ball presence, relentless defensive pressure, and as a catalyst for our offense," said Holly Springs lacrosse coach Doug Greenberg. "Great fitness, tireless work ethic, and a 6'3" physique put him in the spotlight for every rush up field, and his determination to get the ball back makes him feared on rides. Frank helps make our practices feel like game day, and treats each game as though it is a playoff game."
Where in the past most collegiate lacrosse players are recruited from New York State and Maryland, Frank will lay the ground work for others in the area to follow a path of opportunity to play at the next level, as coaches begin to recognize the sports growth as well as the talent that North Carolina can offer.
