Union Pines at C. Gibbons on Sept. 18, 2009.
Rumors circulating Sunday that Cardinal Gibbons would receive a first round forfeit from Currituck appear to be false at this point.
Cardinal Gibbons head coach Mike Sheehan told HighSchoolOT.com Sunday evening that Currituck had not contacted him about forfeiting the game. He also said no administrators had told him about a forfeit.
When HighSchoolOT.com spoke to Sheehan, he was working on reviewing game tape with his coaching staff.
Alex Bass, the sports information director for Cardinal Gibbons, confirmed the fact that the school had not been contacted by the N.C. High School Athletic Association about a forfeit, and said he had not heard about a potential forfeit until HighSchoolOT.com contacted him.
"Until the NCHSAA says otherwise, we're playing Currituck in Raleigh on Friday night," Bass said.
No. 1 Cardinal Gibbons (10-1) is scheduled to host No. 16 Currituck (1-10) on Friday night in Raleigh. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game would be the first ever home playoff game for Gibbons since joining the NCHSAA.
