Gibbons appeals reported record for seeding purposes

Nov 7, 2009

Cedar Ridge vs. Cardinal Gibbons

The N.C. High School Athletic Association released the preliminary brackets on Saturday afternoon, but they had few errors, including the record of Cardinal Gibbons.

Gibbons lost a non-conference game to Louisburg earlier in the season, but because they played an endowment game, they were allowed to drop the loss for seeding purposes. Gibbons did not lose any other games this season, so they should have reported a 10-0 record.

"A couple of kids saw the brackets online and they e-mailed me and said they had us down as 9-1," head coach Mike Sheehan told HighSchoolOT.com.

"After a couple of attempts, we got through to the NCHSAA offices and explained to them the situation," Sheehan said.

The NCHSAA now has Gibbons listed as 10-0, meaning they will contend for the overall No. 1 seed in the 3-A playoffs. Regardless of their draw, Gibbons will host their first ever home playoff game since joining the NCHSAA.

Sheehan will join HighSchoolOT.com Sunday evening for the playoff preview.

I thought so, I looked at the bracket and I was like, "I thought they got to drop a loss!"
