WHARTON, NJ  The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee has announced that 30 student-athletes have been named to the watch list for the prestigious 2010 U.S. Army Player of the Year Award, considered high school football's highest honor.

The U.S. Army Player of the Year award is awarded to the nation's most outstanding senior in high school football. The six finalists for the award will be announced in San Antonio in early December.

The U.S. Army Player of the Year will be crowned during the U.S. Army Awards Dinner on Friday, January 8, 2010, in San Antonio, where the winner will be presented with the Ken Hall Trophy, modeled after Ken "Sugar Land Express" Hall, high school football's all-time leading rusher.

The selection process officially kicks off with the announcement of this watch list.

Consideration will continue this fall as players will be evaluated by coaches from around the country and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee. The 2010 U.S. Army Player of the Year watch list serves as an unofficial list of players contending for the award. The following student-athletes have made the list:

Past award recipients are among the biggest names in college football and the NFL. In previous years, the U.S. Army Player of the Year winners include Kevin Jones (Chicago Bears), 2001; Lorenzo Booker (Florida State), 2002; Chris Leak (Florida), 2003; Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings), 2004; Ryan Perrilloux (LSU), 2005; Mitch Mustain (USC), 2006; Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame), 2007; and Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State), 2008; and Bryce Brown (Tennessee), 2009.

Now celebrating its 10th year, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the nation's premier high school football game, serving as the preeminent launching pad for America's future college and NFL stars. Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Adrian Peterson, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow all made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans.

Last year the U.S. Army All-American Bowl drew over 32,000 fans to the game at the Alamodome along with being the most watched sporting event on television over the weekend, besides the NFL Playoffs. At the 2009 NFL Draft, eight alumni of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl were first round selections.

Do they only select transfers for this team? Or is just the NC ones? Or does it just say a lot about the state of high school football today?

I already know the answer.
