The Green Hope boys soccer team opened the season with a shutout win over the Leesville Road Pride Wednesday.
"After losing 13 seniors to graduation, I'm very pleased with the 2-0 shutout in the first game of the year," Green Hope coach Andrew Chadwick said.
Nader Jaibat and Jared Girard both scored goals for the Falcons, and Andrew Wolshlag and John James were credited with assists.
"We have a lot to work on and its evident we don't have the chemistry yet, but it was a great start to the season," said Chadwick.
Green Hope is ranked No. 3 in the state by the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association behind New Hanover and Myers Park. New Hanover lost 3-1 at home to Jacksonville on Tuesday, so the Falcons may move up in the next poll.
Leesville Road is not ranked in the poll.
The Falcons will play East Chapel Hill on Friday night at 8 p.m., at J. Burt Gillette Complex in Wilson as part of the 2009 Brittany For The Boys Soccer Showcase.
