Kameron Bryant has picked up some interest from Division-I programs in recent weeks, and he has started camping at some of those schools.
Bryant, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback made a move from Green Hope High School to Panther Creek High School this summer after moving out of the Green Hope district. But Bryant, who won't turn 16-years-old until July, got his first collegiate looks while at Green Hope.
"One day at school [Duke assistant coach Scottie] Montgomery came and talked to me," Bryant said.
Last week, Bryant attended the Duke prospect camp.
“I think [Duke head coach David] Cutcliffe is as good as advertised," said Bryant. "His whole coaching staff knows football, and they’re really trying to change the program.”
Bryant spent two days at the camp - Thursday and Friday - and came away impressed with what he saw.
“They’re going to do a really good job at Duke," Bryant said.
Bryant left Duke on Friday to attend the N.C. State prospect camp on Saturday. He was scheduled to go out of town that afternoon, so he could not stay for the entire camp.
"It was good, but I had to leave before the 7-on-7 part," said Bryant.
Bryant has also been invited to camps at Notre Dame, Princeton, and to a seniors only camp at East Carolina. Other schools that have expressed some interest include Maryland, Charleston Southern and Presbyterian. Bryant said he has also received recent interest from Southern Illinois.
Last season, as a sophomore captain at Green Hope, Bryant threw for more than 1,400 yards. He earned all-conference honorable mention recognition, and received a varsity letter.
Bryant, an honor student, has a grade-point average higher than a 4.0, and he is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
At the Underclassman National Combine in Atlanta, Ga., Bryant recorded a forty yard dash time of 4.65, and his bench max is 250 pounds.
The quarterback is also a basketball player, though.
Bryant has been a member of the varsity basketball team at Green Hope since his freshman year. His time with the Falcons included a showing the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational, a highly touted holiday tournament in Raleigh.
As a sophomore, Bryant was the second leading scorer for the Falcons, averaging about nine points per game.
Bryant said he hasn't ruled out playing college basketball if the opportunity presents itself, but acknowledged that he favoring football.
When Bryant begins to receive offers and eventually makes his decision, he will know what he is looking for in each school.
"Level of play and stability of the program is a big [factor]," Bryant said. "Like, how long is the coach going to be there?"
Bryant also said early playing time is not a big factor. "I just want to know that when I get in, I can do a good job," he said.
He also said that location and proximity to home is not a very big factor for him, although he said it was more of an issue for his parents.
Panther Creek will begin their football season on Aug. 21 at Leesville Road. The Catamounts will also participate in the HighSchoolOT.com Jamboree at Southeast Raleigh High School on Aug .15.
