I put out a message on our Facebook page today asking fans to send us links to their recruiting videos on YouTube for us to feature in our "On The Trail" blog on HighSchoolOT.com.
Well, I got this...
Obviously, this is not a recruiting video, but it was something that brought back memories.
Let me set the stage.
Wake Forest-Rolesville defeated Leesville Road on the Pride's senior night to win the Cap 7 title outright. Then the two met again in the playoffs.
Who did I pick to win? Wake Forest-Rolesville. So what happened? Leesville Road won, 21-6.
It was the Football Friday Game of the Week, it was a potential revenge game for Leesville Road, and it meant advancing to the playoffs.
Wake Forest-Rolesville was still undefeated, Leesville Road's only loss to the Cougars.
I was standing on the Wake Forest-Rolesville sideline with WRAL-TV sports reporter Jason Jennings, who was covering the game for Football Friday.
We were talking when all of a sudden we heard a loud pop.
I should have known. The Leesville Loonies brought their fireworks with them to Wake Forest and shot them up over the treeline from a nearby neighborhood.
Jason shifted his camera to get the fireworks on tape. The fireworks fit perfectly into his package for Football Friday.
"Then Leesville Road fans start setting off fireworks, and that doesn't sit well in Wake Forest," Jason said in his package.
Based on some of the feedback we got, I'd say it didn't sit well with Wake Forest-Rolesville fans. After all, it is illegal to set off fireworks in North Carolina, and of course, we were in a severe drought at the time, and we were reminded several times over about both of those facts.
Time heals all wounds, though. Right?
Regardless, for Leesville Road and Wake Forest-Rolesville fans, this video will take you back to some memories (that you may or may not want to revisit).
