RALEIGH — Sanderson will have a new men's and women's tennis coach next school year, as well as a new softball coach in the spring.
According to the school's Web site, Joe Mesiano will coach both tennis teams for the Spartans, and Mike Cody will coach the softball team.
Mesiano has been a volunteer tennis coach at Sanderson in the past. His two daughters also graduated from the school.
"Mr. Mesiano has a considerable amount of experience teaching players of all ages how to improve their tennis game," Sanderson athletic director Bob Catapano said in a written release. "He has earned certification as a tennis teaching professional."
Mesiano will take over for Andy Fowler, the longtime Sanderson tennis coach who announced her retirement.
Tennis season begins on Aug. 10.
Cody is a physical education teacher at Sanderson, and has worked at the school for 23 years. He has been a football coach and baseball coach for the Spartans in the past.
"His wealth of knowledge about fast pitch softball will be a great asset to the Sanderson softball program," said Catapano.
