BUIES CREEK — The Campbell football program has announced its 2009 recruiting class this afternoon, June 1. The 43-member group has all signed letters of commitment and all have also completed enrollment requirements for the university. This is the third official signing class for Coach Steele and the Camels, who will begin play this fall with a home game against Methodist on September 5 at 1 p.m.

“We feel like we’ve met all our needs for next season and the years to follow with this talented group of 2009 recruits,” head coach Dale Steele explained. “We wanted to address a lot of areas and I think we were successful in accomplishing this goal. Besides their talents on the field, these young men represent the sort of quality individuals that will make Campbell University proud. I am pleased with the outstanding hard work of my coaching staff to find this type of individual talent, as we look forward to the upcoming football season.”

The class includes 29 North Carolina natives, four from South Carolina, three from Virginia, two from New York and Florida and one each from New Jersey, Georgia and Tennessee.

Campbell’s football team reports to campus on August 6. The Camels will host a Fan Appreciation/Media Day on Saturday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CU Football Fieldhouse at Barker-Lane Stadium. All fans are welcome to meet and take pictures of the players, coaching staff and the facility at that point. Further details about the event will follow in a later release.

The Camels will return 46 letterwinners and all 22 starters from last year’s team including all-Pioneer First Team selection Milton Brown and all-Pioneer League honorable mention Brandon Chandler.
