Nick Stevens, High School OT
Well, after a week of some surprises, I've done some tweaking to my Triangle Top Ten.
1. Wake Forest-Rolesville (1) - What can I say? They scored 71-points, they allowed 14. This is the best team in the Triangle, and one of the most complete in the state.
2. Millbrook (4) - The Wildcats' win over the Trojans was convincing. Hardly anyone beats Garner at home, and no one shuts them out. In fact, it was the first time this has happened to Nelson Smith. Another complete team out of the Cap Seven.
3. Southeast Raleigh (3) - Good comeback win over New Hanover. The Bulldogs still need to get some more experience, but they're on the right track. I think this is the best team in the Greater Neuse River Conference.
4. Southern Durham (2) - The loss to Mount Tabor dropped Southern two spots, but I think this is still a very good team. Mount Tabor is going to be a very good team this year as well, and someone has to lose (unless you're Richmond and New Bern).
5. Hillside (8) - I think I may have underestimated this team. We knew Hillside was very good in the backfield, but their supporting cast was my concern. Concerned no more, this is a team capable of winning the conference.
6. Apex (6) - Quality win over Holly Springs. Apex will be good offensively, but lets watch their defense...
7. Jordan (7) - The Falcons are on the verge of moving up the poll. Jordan got a quality road win at North Davidson, and they will go on the road again Friday to Green Hope.
8. Broughton (9) - The Caps went to Cary and made a statement. Broughton is not the same Broughton they were last year, and head coach Chris Martin is ready to compete for a conference title.
9. Northern Durham (NR) - Another convincing win from the opening week. Northern Durham handed it to Middle Creek, scoring 33 unanswered points to win big. How the Knights do in the next three weeks will tell a lot about this team.
10. Garner (5) - Despite their big loss to Millbrook, I still think Garner belongs in the Triangle Top Ten. The Trojans will be much more balanced on offense when Josh Brooks returns, and I think they're misfortune in turnovers and penalties will be ironed out by Nelson Smith in practice this week.
