Tarboro High School sustained significant damage from Hurricane Irene on Saturday.
Principal Lisa Cook said the roof failed over four classrooms and a work room at the school, causing damage inside the rooms. Cook added that other schools in Edgecombe County also received damage.
Ann Kent, Chairwoman of the Edgecombe County Board of Education, said Sunday that four classrooms at Tarboro High School are not usable. She added that water leaked through several other spots in the ceiling.
According to Kent, the roof of the bus garage was also ripped off, but no buses were damaged.
There is no estimate for cleanup at this time.
Edgecombe County Schools will be closed on Monday as recovery efforts continue.
Tarboro moved last week's football game to Thursday in order to play the game before Irene hit North Carolina. The Vikings defeated Washington, 53-14.
Northern Nash is slated to travel to Tarboro on Friday. No changes to that game have been announced.
