Millbrook High School point guard Kai Crutchfield verbally committed to North Carolina State University on Tuesday.

Last season, Crutchfield started for the Wildcats as a freshman, helping the team to a 24-4 overall record, including a share of the Cap 8 4-A Conference title.

"Kai has great court vision and is a very impressive player. She does a little bit of everything for us," said East. "She's one of our top scorers, she gets rebounds, she takes tough defensive assignments. I think it is a tremendous honor to get to coach her for four years."

Middle Creek Mustang kicker and punter Michael Rubino has received his first full scholarship offer to play football at the next level.

Appalachian State has offered the 6-foot-3 rising senior, Middle Creek Head Coach Mike Castellano said Wednesday.

In 2013, Rubino was an all-conference kicker and punter in the 4-A Southwest Wake Athletic Conference. He was also the conference's Special Teams Player of the Year. He also plays basketball at Middle Creek.

Rubino's foot helped the Mustangs to a 12-3 overall record last season and an undefeated 7-0 mark in the SWAC. The team fell to Wake Forest by a point in the 4-AA eastern regional final.

Rubino starts his senior season at Middle Creek Aug. 22 against rival Garner. The Mustangs will also be featured in a 6:15 p.m. game against Southern Durham during the HighSchoolOT.com Jamboree at Cardinal Gibbons on Aug. 16.

Green Hope all-around athlete Bryce Dixon earned his first college offer Tuesday morning.

Dixon, a rising junior for the Falcon football team, was offered by Boston College, according to head coach Kwame Dixon.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect spends most of his time at wide receiver and defensive back in Green Hope's offense, though he also shares time at running back.

Green Hope went 5-7 last season and 2-5 in the 4-A Southwest Wake Athletic Conference. The Falcons' season came to an end with a first-round playoff loss to Wakefield.

Dixon and the Falcons begin their next chapter Aug. 22 at home against Cardinal Gibbons. The team also plays the first game of the HighSchoolOT.com Jamboree on Aug. 16, taking the field against East Wake at noon at Cardinal Gibbons.
