Dudley repeats as 3-AA state champion
J.R. Peterson and Ricky Lewis each ran for two touchdowns and Greensboro Dudley won its second straight North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-AA state title with a 34-18 victory against Kannapolis Brown.

Newton-Conover rolls past Tarboro 51-28 in 2-A final
Dorian Jones rushed for 157 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns as Newton-Conover rolled past Tarboro 51-28 at Kenan Stadium on Friday night to win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A football championship.

When Tom Suiter delivers the sports report with his characteristic energy and passion Dec. 18, it will be his last 6 p.m. sportscast. Suiter will transition to a new role for WRAL, and Jeff Gravley will become the 6 p.m. sports anchor.

Powell's blocked punt, TD gives Apex win over Hoggard
Joey Powell blocked a punt and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown with 1:17 left in the game to lift Apex to a 6-3 upset of Hoggard in the second round of the state 4AA high school football playoffs Friday at Hoggard Stadium.

The first round of the playoffs for PAC 6 teams has Chapel Hill hosting Fayetteville Westover, Southern at home against Athens Drive, Hillside at home against Fayetteville Pine Forest, and Northern Durham at Wilmington New Hanover.

Four teams from the Greater Neuse qualified for the playoffs. In the 4-A, Southeast Raleigh will host Cary, while Smithfield-Selma will travel to Middle Creek. In the 4-AA, Garner will host Millbrook, and West Johnston will travel to Apex.
