Cleveland defeats West Johnston to claim JUSA Cup

Posted August 18

— Cleveland junior Hunter Lee tallied three goals to lead the Rams past West Johnston, 5-0, Thursday night and claim the 2017 Johnston United Soccer Association Cup.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first half, but Lee struck quickly with three goals within in 47th minute for the hat trick, his second in as many days.

Lee was named the tournament’s offensive most valuable player for his seven-goal performance in three games.

Junior Quintin Strickland scored for Cleveland 13 minutes after Lee’s last tally, and fellow junior Emiliano Planchon added another in the 78th minute to give the Rams a five-goal victory.

Cleveland (3-0) returns to action Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Harnett County, and West Johnston (2-1) also returns Wednesday for a home contest against Southern Nash.
