Clayton hosts Shrine Bowl combine

Clayton High School on Saturday hosted the second of five Shrine Bowl Combines in Johnston County.

— Clayton High School on Saturday afternoon hosted the second of five Shrine Bowl combines in the state of North Carolina, an event for rising senior football players to showcase their skills for possible selection to the annual game in December.

Nearly 150 players from across the area made the trip to Clayton to participate in drills from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, pro shuttle, 185-pound bench press and position-specific workouts.

Eastern Alamance, Olympic and AC Reynolds will also hold combines prior to the 81st annual Shrine Bowl, hosted by Wofford College on Dec. 16. Kinston held the first combine on March 25.
