Chapel Hill needs overtime to beat Northwood, 1-0

— Chapel Hill needed overtime to beat Northwood on Wednesday night, but after the extra period, the Tigers came away with a 1-0 win.

The first half was heavily controlled by Chapel Hill as the Tigers put 15 shots on goal. But the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net and the game was tied at 0-0 at halftime.

Northwood evened out the possession in the second half, taking more shots on goal than it did in the first half, but both teams were once again held scoreless.

The two teams went to overtime and in the 87th minute, Jack Olcott passed to Justin Mecham who knocked the ball into the lower right hand corner of the goal to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Chapel Hill's advantage held through both overtime periods, giving the Tigers a win.

After the victory, Chapel Hill is now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big Eight 3-A Conference. The Tigers return to play on Friday with a home game against rival Carrboro at 6:45 p.m.

Northwood falls to 1-9 on the season with the loss to Chapel Hill. Next up for the Chargers is a home game against Orange on Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
