Cary, SE Raleigh claim track & field regional titles

— Southeast Raleigh's girls and Cary's boys track and field teams took home regional championships at the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A Mideast Regional on Saturday.

The Bulldogs put together a dominant performance, outpacing second-place Panther Creek 120-80.

Kyna Robinson won the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.70 seconds, just ahead of teammate Saidah Hardwick who finished with a time of 56.41 seconds.

Southeast's Sierra Fletcher dominated the hurdles. The sophomore won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.97 seconds, then cruised to victory in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.94 seconds, well ahead of second-place Kianna Stotts of Millbrook who ran the event in 45.12 seconds.

The Bulldogs also had good performances in the relays. Southeast Raleigh finished in first place in the girls 4x100 with a time of 47.62 seconds, more than one full second ahead of second-place Enloe.

Southeast Raleigh dominated the 4x400 meter relay, finishing in 3:55.16. Green Hope finished second with a time of 4:03.04

The boys team race was very competitive. Cary won the team title with a score of 78, barely edging conference rival Panther Creek, which had a team score of 74.50.

Panther Creek got big performances from senior J Johnson to keep it in contention. Johnson won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.62 seconds, then took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.91 seconds.

Johnson's success wasn't limited to the track. Johnson also won gold in the long jump, posting a distance of 22-09.00.

Cary was able to edge the Catamounts though. The Imps got a first-place finish from Elijah Knight in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 seconds. Knight also finished in first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 38.65 seconds, beating out second-place Seraphin Kibnonge of Millbrook with a time of 40.53 seconds.

The Imps' 4x400 meter relay team beat out Green Hope to win gold with a time of 3:21.00.
