Cary Academy defeats Cary Girls 65 to 39 during the 2012 HSOT.com Holiday Invitational Basketball tournament Monday December 26, 2011.
FINAL: Cary Academy 65 Cary High 39: The first game is in the books of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational as the host school, Cary Academy Chargers (8-2) took it to their cross-town foe, Cary High Imps (7-4), in their first ever game in the 40th annual tournament.
The Chargers led by Mickayla Sanders, had a commanding lead for much of the first half, leading 30-22 at halftime. A run by the Imps, who were paced by 18 points from Whitney Coleman and Azura Stevens, gave the Imps a brief lead at 34-33 late in the 3rd quarter. However the Chargers closed the game on a 32-5 run. Sanders was not the lone scorer for the Chargers, as Brianna Powell finished with 21 points, giving the Chargers a 2 woman tandem that was too much for the Imps to overcome. The Chargers excelled in limiting Stevens' from getting easy looks in the paint with their suffocating defense. Sanders finished the game with 30 points, while Stevens finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds..
The Chargers move on in the winner's bracket portion of the 4-game Girl's Bracket and will face the winner of Holly Springs and Rocky Mount on Tuesday, December 27th at 4PM.
The Imps will fall into the loser's bracket and face the loser of the Holly Springs and Rocky Mount on Tuesday at 11AM at Cary Academy.
END 3Q: Cary Academy 43 Cary High 34: We head toe the 4th quarter of the first game of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational. The Cary Imps took a lead of 34-33 (their first lead since 2-0), but the Cary Academy Chargers went on a 10-0 run to end the third quarter, punctuated by a 3 in the corner by Mickayla Sanders with 18 seconds to go in the 3rd.

HALF: Cary Academy 30 Cary High 22: The Imps were the aggressor in the 2nd quarter of the first game in the Girl's 4-Team Bracket, drawing closer to the Chargers. It started on the defense, as the Imps forced the Chargers into many turnovers which led to many transition baskets by the Imps. Leading the charge for the Imps was Azura Stevens.
END 1Q: Cary Academy 17 Cary High 4: The host school, Cary Academy, have come out on fire early in this one. Led by Mickayla Sanders' 6 points, the Chargers have a commanding a lead over cross-town Cary High. Chargers have been able to do this by some tenacious defense early on, making it very hard for sophomore Azura Stevens to get easy baskets. Stevens leads the Imps with 4 points.
One thing that may change the flow of this game is both Sanders and Stevens each are saddled with 2 fouls early in this contest.
PREGAME: The 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Invitational Tournament is set to tip off today from Cary Academy.
The Cary Academy Chargers will face off against the Cary High Imps in the first game of the Girl's 4-team bracket. The Imps are led by 6 foot 5 inch super sophomore Azura Stevens. The upstart Chargers, making their first appearance in the HSOT Invitational are led by multiple players including Mickayla Sanders and Cassy Stafford
Holly Springs and Rocky Mount will meet in the other half the of the bracket immediately following this contest.
