Rocky Mount Sekeya Battle

Rocky Mount Sekeya Battle (#10) and Holly Springs Kiara Leslie (#30) box each other out as the Rocky Mount Girls defeat Holly Springs Girls 61 to 48 during the 2011 HSOT.com Holiday Invitational Basketball tournament Monday December 26, 2011.

FINAL: Rocky Mount 61 Holly Springs 48: It was a tale of two halves in Game 2 of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational, as the Rocky Mount Gryphons pulled away from the Holly Springs Lady Hawks to take away a victory.

The team's were even throughout the first half, but the difference was J'Kyra Brown and her hot shooting. Brown had a personal 11-0 run in the third quarter (9 of which from 3 pt range). The Hawks had no answer for Brown and ultimately led to the demise of Holly Springs. Brown finished with 30 points. Holly Springs was led by Kiara Leslie with 22 points.

The Rocky Mount victory sets up a battle with Cary Academy in the winner's bracket of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket. Holly Springs will take on the Cary High School Imps in the loser's bracket. All games will played at Cary Academy High School beginning at 11AM on Tuesday December 27th. Follow all the action on HighSchoolOT.com

END 3Q: Rocky Mount 42 Holly Springs 30: The Gryphons and Hawks are battling down to the end in Game 2 of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational. Led by some outside shooting from J'Kyra Brown (3 3 pointers in a row at one point) and Alexus Daniels, Rocky Mount has been able to extend their lead from the first half into double digits for the first time this game. Brown leads Rocky Mount with 23 points for the game now.

HALFTIME STATS:

Rocky Mount:

J'Kyra Brown- 8 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists

Tia Hudgins- 5 pts, 4 rebounds

Alexus Cooper- 4 pts

Carmen Richardson- 2 pts

Kelsey Daniels- 2 pts

Holly Springs:

Kiara Leslie- 9 pts, 5 rebounds

Ka'la Jordan- 4 pts

Syrenna Mclean- 4 pts

Hadiya Howard- 2 pts

HALFTIME Rocky Mount 21 Holly Springs 20: We are in the middle of a see-saw affair in Game 2 of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket portion of the 2011 HighSchoolOt.Com Holiday Invitational. Guard J'Kyra Brown of Rocky Mount hit a 3 as time expired at the end of the half to push the Gryphons into the lead. The intensity level on the court is showing as the physical play on both ends has dominated the play thus far.

END 1Q Rocky Mount 11 Holly Springs 8: In a back and forth first quarter, the Gryphons of Rocky Mount claim a lead over Holly Springs after the 1st quarter. In a game, not absent of intensity and effort, we saw a a lot of physical play in the paint area.

PREGAME: Game 2 of the first day of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational sees Holly Springs and Rocky Mount squaring off in the other half of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket.

Rocky Mount returns three starters from a 25-4 team last year. The Gryphons are led by senior Tia Hudgins.

The winner of this game will face off against Cary Academy in the winner's bracket game of the 4-Team Girl's Bracket. The loser will face Cary High School.
