Boys' basketball state playoff brackets finalized

After several preliminary versions, the N.C. High School Athletic Association released its finalized state playoff brackets Saturday evening just after 6:30.  More Info     NCHSAA Basketball Logo - Generic Graphic FINAL boys' basketball playoff brackets

Sixty-four teams were seeded in each classification, with 32 teams from each region.

Games will be hosted by the higher seed in each match-up. They will be played Monday, Wednesday and Friday. According to the NCHSAA, all games will be played at 7 p.m. unless a boys' and girls' double-header is played at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

4-A East

With the second seed, the Northern Durham Knights are the highest-seeded 4-A East team in the area. The Knights finished 21-1 overall and will host the 31-seed Holly Springs Golden Hawks.

No. 3 seed Clayton, led by 6-foot-7 Cincinnati recruit Gary Clark, will host 10-10 D.H. Conley in the first round of the state playoffs. Fourth-seeded Millbrook, the regular-season winner of the Cap-8 4-A conference, will host Person.

The 17-5 Apex Cougars earned the seventh seed in the region and will host No. 26 Riverside.

The Orange Panthers finished 20-2 in the regular season and were upset by the Southern Durham Spartans in the Big Eight conference championship game Friday night, but the loss was not enough to keep the team from the top seed in the 3-A East. The Panthers will host South Brunswick in the first round.

The Hunt Warriors were given the second seed in the region while Terry Sanford is the third seed and Triton is the fourth seed.

A conference rematch will put Cleveland and Smithfield-Selma head-to-head in the first round.
