Hey, we stood behind our team. Yeah, we didn't do as well as we thought we would. Boys played their hearts out though and that is what is important. We look forward to next year. We will be back--thinking we can win it all next time. You can come back then and tell us we are all wrong. But next time we might not be. . . .

Guess they weren't quite as good as you folks thought.

As for those of you arguing about where good talent is found, the answer is everywhere. If you can play, they will eventually find you. I would hope we'd all respect the kids that play at a high level regardless of whether or not their school falls into the 1A/2A/3A or 4A class.

What Carrboro has done is impressive. What Broughton and Garner and Clayton have done is as well. But there is a reason we have classifications, give the smaller schools a chance to compete on a level-er playing field. Statistics and Probability will tell you that the higher the population at a school, the larger the chance that there will be 3-4 phenomenal athletes that can change a game(particularly a basketball game).

There is a reason Hoosiers is a story we all love. Little guy does something no one expects them to do, but that is typically the exception and not the rule and that is why the OT Top 10 Rankings are the way they are. Has nothing to do with how impressive what Carrboro has done is or isn't in our opinion, just has to do with who else is in those things. Some pretty good teams with great players. Carrboro is a good team with good players, not being in the Top 10 in the area according to HSOT shouldn't take away from what they've done.

Also, when it comes to coverage, lots of teams, limited resources ... and we PROMISE we are doing the best we can with what we've got. Have to say, I'm pretty proud of the product we put out there.

You all know where to find us!
    @JamesAlverson

    That's my two cents.

First of all, I typically stay off the message boards except when it comes time for football power ranking questions. Secondly, it was great to get out to see the Jaguars, I will be honest I wasn't covering the game for HSOT or anything other than to get out and see Coach Alcox, who is a good friend of mine and was my middle school basketball coach when I moved to NC in 8th grade. I learned a tremendous amount from him about basketball and life, as you can certainly tell his squads today are still doing now.

Congrats to Carrboro on an undefeated conference season. 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A ... having a level of perfection is not anything to down-grade for any reason and they should certainly be commended for their season so far, I hope (personally) that it continues to be a special year.

As for where they rank in the area, they'd be in consideration for being in my top 10, but I don't think I would put them in yet. Granted, the night I saw them they were playing their 3rd game in 4 nights, so the jump shots and rebounding may have been a little off, I have to admit, I'm really impressed by the level of play.

As I told Coach Alcox after the game, I will share here as well, they would compete with teams in the Cap 8, they wouldn't be a threat to win the conference in my opinion, but I believe they'd be a playoff team. They are a solid TEAM. That goes a long way in winning some games against maybe more talented players.

I believe they'd fall in the mix in the Cap 8 specifically around the 4-6 spot, since that appears to be the conference that they are most oft thrown into here. I think they'd have some great games against Wakefield/Enloe/Sanderson. Can they beat the Leesville/Millbrook/Broughtons of the world, sure. So did the team that finished last in the Cap 8. Tough league, IMO, the best in the area, and anyone could beat anyone, but those top 3 are consistently a little bit ahead of the others.

Enjoyed seeing the Jags, look forward to seeing where they finish it!

I can respect that, hopefully they will have success next season in the new mid state conference

Carrboro has a solid team I wouldn't put them in the top ten though and isn't because of them being 2A. You cannot really know how good a team really is unless they play good competition, especially in high school. If we were talking about a team like Kinston who has proven year after year to be one of the top team in NC. Good luck the rest of the way though.

Congrats to Carrboro Jaguars on a great season, look forward to the conference tourney coming up and the playoffs, thanks to James Alverson for coming out, Nick I know your swamped with such a large area to cover it was good to see a rep fron OT at the game.

Look forward to seeing Carrboro on a bunch of 4a schedules next year so your team can back up your mouth.

Perhaps NC Quiz Bowl has a message board. I am sure they would appreciate your insightful commentary as much as we do.

@James Alverson, thanks for coming to the game tonight. If the refs had let Carrboro breath without blowing a whistle, it might have been more interesting. Good to know that you do actually cover us totally unimportant and irrelevant schools. We are proud to be undefeated in the conference, even if others say it is no big deal.

So you talk about your hoops team for a week and pd then when I mention recruiting you name all football players

    Now who is the clown?

you dont get respect you earn it and trust me im not looking for it from someone who makes a clown statement like that, im sure Carrboro has the respect of the people that matter and im positive your not one of them.

it's the classic big boy vs. little 2a conference. Tobaccoroad it not going to happen man. Even if you beat a 4A team in a game you still will not get any respect

Nc has great schools and great athletes, 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, recruiting has nothing to do with your classification.
    Kennan Allen-Northern Guilford-3A-CAL
    Todd Gurley-Tarboro-2A-GEORGIA
    Tj Logan-Northern Guilford-3A-UNC
    Brandon Tate-Cummings-2A-UNC
    Dwight Jones-Cummings-2A-UNc

Big boys everywhere not just 4A, much success to all athletes in NC that make it to the next level, you represent your school and the state and thats a plus for us all, GOD BLESS.

tobacco, I was going to ask you the same question. You are trying way to hard here.

Nice that a little 2A school is having success. Good for you. I am sure your town is proud.

The big boys play in 4A and recruiting shows it.

You want recognitions and vig your school doesnt deserve. Like it or not, and we know you dont like it, that is life.

Be invited to the HSOT and have some success and maybe folks will take you seriously. Or maybe next year when you get in a better conference people will notice. But really, school of science and math. Come on Man.

Carrboro defeats South Granville and is one game away from going undefeated in the Carolina 12 a down conference but building great team chemistry.
