71st also had 20 turnovers, and BHS had 14 steals...I'm surprised the game was that close...and when you are tossing away that many points (if the old addage of a 4 point turnaround on each TO is right)the fouls had to be related to the sloppy play...I give 71st credit...to do that in a big game and to be under double digits in the final score you have to be good...not to mention being up by 9 at the half...

  • waggle right Mar 12, 2013

    That sounds pretty lopsided

Oops 38 points not fouls, still is hard to believe though. How many attempts to score 38. At 100 percent it is 19 fouls and I doubt they shot 100 percent!

  • kmagnusson Mar 12, 2013

There couldn't have been that many fouls??? 5 fouls by 5 starters = 25. All five would have fouled out?
8 players x. 5 fouls = 40. Did 71st have to put the cheerleaders in the game??? It doesn't add up!!!!

Graham also had 7 steals...to go with his free throws...wonder if the 2 were related...

Olympic is lucky they don't have to play Heritage!

Olympia has 6 or 7 seniors on there squad. There PG's are the new york type in were they can break there defender down off dribble one on one any time they WANT too. Graham can lock one of the down but who on the Brought time can lock him down the other one? It's going to be a great game tho!

  • dfmlythr Mar 10, 2013

PG Graham had half of those 38 FT attempts!

  • waggle right Mar 9, 2013

I seen that Broughton scored 38 points from the FT line. Is that true? Also, how many times did 71st get to the line. Was it lopsided?

Olympia is 29-0 and has been crushing people all year...Broughton took it to 71st so we shall see...the way 71st took out Clayton I didn't have too much hope for Broughton against them but they out played them...so apparently they can play with a running team...
Olympia hit 90 to 100 pts quite a bit, but it's hard to qualify the comp they played...

It's great to see a team from our area go to the finals but like so many in the past few years who brings home the title.

Maybe I was right about the Cap 8 after all, good luck to Broughton in the State Championship Game.

Greater Neuse> Cap 8? Millbrook girls, and Southeast girls are on a collison course. Think I will take the defending champs! Both are great teams.

When i was in highschool, panther creek was crushing everyone in the area, they even beat word of god in a tourney when they had john wall and cj leslie. But we went down to jack britt and lost by 16. we were missing starters. but fayettville has some ballers

I love how people talk negative about CAP-8 men's basketball and for the last four years it has been a CAP-8 team that made it to the eastern regional semi-finals. SMH!

WE WILL SEE WHO MAKES IT TO FAYETTEVILLE!

I hope your right about the cap 8, I'm a big Middle Creek fan. MC will have to face a cap eight team if they win their first playoff game and they might have to face one in the first round. I don't know anything about Heritage, and I've not seen GT, Clayton or Knightdale play this year. All of my posts were attempts to stir the pot but I ended up looking like I smoked it instead. I was attempting to get under the skin of my friends from Garner, I did a little bit, but not as much as I hoped. Oh well.

    @ kmags

    Nice try but.....hahahahaha

    2-12 & 6-17 = terrible

    4-10 & 10-14 = terrible

    Conclusion based on head-to-head games......

The Greater Neuse IS greater than the cap 8. GT, Clayton, SE, & Knightdale would much rather face the cap 8 than the teams they're likely to face. Keep trying!

    ....and I'm sure GT (19-3), Clayton (22-2), 71st (22-2), South View (20-3), & Hoke (22-2) would much rather face each other than the following;
    Broughton (19-5), the 'Brook (15-9), L-R (16-7), Wakefield (12-10), MC (17-7)
    LOL

It looks like the Greater Neuse will luck out and not have to play a Cap 8 team unless they somehow progress to the Regional Final. When the two top teams lose to the two bottom teams in a conference it shows the conference is tough top to bottom. Games played earlier in the year are deceiving, especially in basketball. I saw Middle Creek get hammered by Leesville in December and thought MC wouldn't win a game the rest of the year, but I was wrong.

^You're making my point, mags! Heritage (2-11 & 6-16) beat the #1 team in the Cap 8. Millbrook, the Cap 8 #2 team, lost to Knightdale & squeaked by Heritage the last time they played.

GT, SE, & Knightdale are a combined 9 - 3 against the Cap 8 this season.

Knightdale, sitting at #4 in the GN, posted a 5 - 2 mark against the Cap 8, which included Ws over Heritage (lol), the 'Brook, & WF-R. Knightdale took control of the Cap 8 & didn't need GT, SE, or Clayton to do it.

Given Knightdale's acquisition of the Cap 8 this season, it's safe to assume that those ranked ahead of 'em would have done the same thing. The Greater Neuse blazed a trail through the Cap 8 that would have made Lewis & Clark proud.

Have you looked at the non-conference schedules for these schools? We'll just look at the top three teams in each conference...

Clayton - Fuquay (x2), Cleveland (x2), Hunt (x2), New Hanover, Martinsville, VA, Fayetteville Acad, Butler

Garner - Northern Durham (x2), Athens, Cary, Sanderson (x2), Goldsboro, Dudley

Southeast Raleigh - Enloe (x2), Green Hope, Southern Durham (x2), Wake Forest-Rolesville, Riverside, Northern Durham

Broughton - Athens Drive, Southern Durham, New Hanover, Hoggard, Apex, Cardinal Gibbons, Cary, Person, St. Joseph, Hampton

Millbrook - Southern Durham, Knightdale, Apex, New Hanover, Northern Durham, Hoggard, Kinston, Buford, Eastside, Alpharetta

Leesville - Apex, Panther Creek, Northern Durham, Green Hope, Cary, Middle Creek, Riverside, Dudley, Goldsboro

If anyone wants to go through and get opponent records and opponent opponent records, you can do SOS/RPI, but I don't think that's necessary. The eye test will do it.

Garner and Clayton maybe, the rest is wishful SE Raleigh had 3 Cap8/Tri9 games at the start of the year - they split with Enloe and got drubbed by Green Hope.

Granted it was early but they had a chance to show how they stacked up and failed.

  • waggle right Feb 14, 2013

Clayton has a tough road trip to Knightdale tomorrow to face a team that Clayton only beat by one point on their home court.

Garner on the other hand should have an easy time with Harnett Central. A team that they beat by 20 earlier in the year.

First place will be decided tomoorow night. Garner will either be tied with Clayton or they will be by themselves in first place after tomorrow night.

I will respectfully disagree as I have seen every Cap 8 team and those three teams in person this year.

We will see when playoff time comes.

Good luck to all of the local teams. Would love to see a couple of state championships come home to the Triangle!

I'll take Garner, Clayton, SE & Knightdale over any team in the Cap 8.
