Good win on Friday for DSA! South Granville has been doing well in the league. Carrboro beat Cedar Ridge on Friday, but Cedar Ridge played well and kept it a close game. Cedar Ridge may actually be tied with Voyager for 6th place.

Carrborosuperfan DSA played Northwood on Saturday, Northwood beat the game. Friday's game resulted in a win for DSA.

    Northwood is 8-0
    Cedar Ridge
    Carrboro
    DSA is in 4th

Actually, I think South Granville is 4th, unless DSA beat them on Friday night. Have not seen a score for that game yet. Cedar Ridge has dropped to 7th, behind River Mill Academy (5th) and Voyager Academy (6th). Franklin Academy is 8th. DSA has a tough road ahead for the end of its season--have to play Northwood, Carrboro and South Granville again.

DSA lost tonight to Northwood. It was a close game they only lost by 3 pts. They were down by 27 at one point and then they just came up the ladder. Alot of free throws were missed by NorthWood, who had alot of tall players. I'm proud of DSA!

I saw Aaron ex player of DSA, that transferred to Northern and he went to give the team love. Everyone responded positively except the coach who refused his hand when he reached out.

Carrboro is still holding the #1 position in the Carolina 12.
Durham School of the Arts is 2nd
    Northwood is 3rd
    Cedar Ridge is 4th

All teams have worked hard and I wish all of them much luck

Aaron Bumphus transferred?? Wow! He was a great player!! I wish him all the luck in the world. I saw where he made the News in Durham Morning Herald. He was mentioned as the leading scorer. He has a solid game. I remember seeing him play over the summer with Outlaw in which this is his cousin. The two boys ran the team. Aaron was shooting 3's into the basket like stars falling in the sky. Of course OUTLAW did his thing!!!LOL

Its sad to see such a good talent leave a Great School. I just wish him the best!!

Carrborosuperfan thanks or that information. At least for DSA they will still play NCSSM and S. Granville. But you are right it will be alot more traveling! It seems that most of the schools will be in surrounding Northern counties of the Carolina and Southern counties of Virginia.

Ok, just looked it up (it is on the NCHSAA website). In 2013, Carrboro will be in Conference 11C with Bartlett-Yancy, Cummings, Graham, Jordan-Matthews and Reidsville. DSA (which is a 2A school), will be in Conference 12C with Bunn, Franklinton, NCSSM, Roanoke Rapids, S. Granville, Southern Vance and Warren County. We will all be doing a lot more traveling!

Big ups to the Bulldogs! I did not attend the game but it made me happy hear about the victory and #15 Bumphus doing so well. That is a special number to me. I was concerned about Alvarado because he is such a spot on shooter. But I have noticed that this year's team has a defensive intensity that I've not seen consistently at DSA. Good Job coaches and players! Hats of to you supporters and parents!! I see the Herald Sun finally found its way to Duke Street. The article was good and DSA needs more coverage. They are a young team and you parents have a couple more years, so keep promoting the team and the school to anyone who will listen. Maybe then the perception will change.

@NextBigThing Aaron Bumphus @15 played a good game tonight and you are right he had not been playing much. The Coach Let Him Play and he did his thing! No 22 on River Mill team is a great player as well.

In the last game Bumphus was in the game for 2:44 sec he played in the last game he was hustling he had 6pt, 2 steals, and 3 defensive rebounds, and 2 offensive rebounds.

@tballnhard His Alertness, perception, and processing ability is due to him being academically and Kenestically intelligent. He is a Haptic learner and Producer. Those are rare qualities in a child.

@Carrborosuperfan is DSA a 3A, all this time I have been thinking they was a 3A?

Do anyone know what conference DSA will be in if they make changes for the next season?

@Afrocine2 DSA won 70 to 51 GREAT GAME.

@Tobaccoroad919 Each player left the bench tonight during the game and the player that was on the bench that could have been the player the parent was referring to, not sure because it was two players who did not get alot of pt at Carrboro's GAme, but one of the players was #15, who led the team tonight, I think in NextBigThing comment above he said his name is Aaron Bumphus, This Kid blew it up!! The coach had not been letting him play much. The chain was released and the boy went off. He scored 18 points,it was looking like a triple double was on it's way; 6 defensive rebounds, 2/3 offensive rebounds and 2 steal. Actually, he had a couple of steals that was not counted because of a foul or something made by other players. I seen him stop from a fast run instantly, as he was moving in to block a shot, but just as the player went to shot the ball in the goal the player passed off to another player standing on the post. Bumphus projected this play before it even left the boy's hands and almost by tip, stole the ball. That speed, alertness, and preception is something else. He can jump too!! I had to ask myself why is the boy on the bench at all???

Now if this is the kid the parent was talking about then you have to really think.??? (Things that make you go UMM!)LOL I mean Martin Luther King had to march. LOL and Malcom X had to be heard. It wasn't appropriate in timing or anything else for these Civil Right Activists. LOL Am just saying.....Be careful when judging.

Carolina 12 is where it be happening!!! Good Luck To All the School in the Pack.

Boy #15 Aaron bumphus finally start playing like I saw him over the summer he was the top scorer today with 18 6 offensive rebound by himself but I was looking at him like this isn't the same kid I saw he last couple of game but I mean he has a lot of playing time to which gave him more opportunity to score he was everywhere to the kid have great hustle and all but He really showed out today

never will i speak negative about a kid but parents need to show some restraint and set a example for the kids, blow my fuse you dont even know me, dsa got handled like they should have very competetive game effort wise just out matched, much respect to dsa coaching staff i thinkthey are doing a great job with a young team.

DSA has to be concerned tonight with #22 Alvarado from River Mill. This kid can score and he has a shooters mentality. They also have a very scrappy pg that plays increadibly hard. The Bulldogs can win but it will be a battle.

You know I have always been the type person that if your team is winning and doing something right, I don't want to join you, I want to make my team better. Carrboro will always be strong, they have a feeder system in Orange County of really good athletes. DSA would be well advised to make our school better. Whatever those improvements need to be we should be willing to do them. I know of some local schools that leave the gym open so that the players can get in extra time. DSA should do this. I believe that we should take the same approach as the football schools, no amount of practice is too much. Spring ball, weight training, drills and more drills. We lose too many kids at ninth grade to the Pac 6 schools, they go because they have dreams of playing on the big stage, unfortunately most never touch the football field or basketball court. They would be better served by staying put and making their school better. Changing the mentality is where it starts. Hillside is always good because Hillside always works. It won't cost any more money to encourage athletic excellance and will only help the school financially, spirit-wise and improve its athletes.

My understanding is that the conferences are based on the size of the school. Right now, the Carolina 12 is a conference that is made up of 1A and 2A schools. There have been a lot of 1A schools added in the last few years, so I think there are enough now to have a separate conference of just 1A schools. There are not as many 2A schools in this area. Some other things are changing around also, such as Northwood moving from 2A to 3A. Will be interesting. Carrboro has around 800 students, but I don't know the range of numbers of the schools in 2A.

You brought up the parent threatening the coach. This is not the place for that. Keep it off the forum. I did not hear what you heard. I heard the parent ask why a child was pulled off the floor. It wasn't to the extent that you are making it seem. None of these comments on this forum has been negative in anyway. You are a veteran and need to shape up your game. You are appearing to be (not saying you are) sarcastic and double standard.

Lets stick with clean talk about all parents, coaches, and players across the board. Parents are just as important as the coaches, refs, and players. They spend the money for the teams' uniforms, travels to games, pay at the doors on top of the other expenses or fund raising they do. Everyone is only human. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the parent. You are not perfect and I have seen you blow your fuse and neither is any one man or woman on the face of the earth. Let it go man.......... Just say the kid can come to Carrboro and leave it at that.

Well, DSA will get one more shot at Carrboro and I hope it is a good game! Actually, that will probably be the last time DSA sees Carrboro in the regular season. They are re-shuffling the conferences next year and Carrboro is going to play in a conference with all 2A schools. Not sure of the name, they will be with Graham and Cummings, I think. A lot more travel, but stronger competition. Carrboro beat Raleigh Charter by almost 50 last night, which is not really fun for either team.

  • tballnhard Jan 15, 2013

The parent did not threaten the coach. The parent only asked the coach why a child wasn't playing. There was an action from the coach too. But let's leave the negativity in that gym. The forum is not the place for this conversation. Check out your comment on Coaches forum.

If it apply to coaches and players it should apply in all aspects whether geared at coaches or about coaches. Stop putting fuel on the fire. You are not that parent nor coach nor do you know the history or complete conversation. Neither do I, but I did not hear what you are claim was said.

I agree, that parent should take you up on that offer to Carrboro, LOL!!!!

I look forward to a great year. I look to see DSA improve and become more of a challenge for Carrboro or any other school.

LOL @tballnhard be ready for what Carrboro almost won by 50, no parent should threaten a coach after the game it sends a horrible message to the kids and if this kid is so good but not getting playing time send him to Carrboro I gurantee you we will use him.

By the way Bumphus was doing a good job until he was taken out. 2:44 min playtime and 2/3 rebounds,2 steals, and 6pts. And one of the points was made while falling onto the floor and off balance. The CRowd was like....WOW!! They went off. He is going to a a bigger beast by the time he becomes a Jr and Sr.

They should be in the Pac-6 so should Carrboro.

@ AFROCINE2 I agree, it is really a challenge to get DSA the recognition it deserves. I hope that can change in the future. I mean when you go to college they look for all these academic strengths that DSA culture offers, but alot of these areas of study requires right hemisphere academic strenths which fall in line with kenestics or sports. Both area deals with the Right Hemisphere intelligence. Its totally not hard to beleive that that DSA had beat a couple of the PAC-6 teams. I have seen were Pac-6 had teams that right now the squard can beat. I hope some changes takes place. VERY VERY GOOD POINTS!!

Hey DSA fans,I totally understand your situation. I've had two kids to graduate from and play basketball at DSA. As a parent you want the best for your kids, you watch them grow up and develop as players. You not only see them compete with but sometimes perform better than the players at the Pac 6 schools. You know that they deserve respect, attention and praise for what they are capable of doing. However, it rarely comes and when it does its in the form of "that kid #_ is ok, but DSA still sucks". You get tired of hearing this, you want to see your kid shine, you want the Herald Sun to treat DSA like they treat the other schools, you also want your child to get a quality DSA education, unfortunately, right now its a trade off. All of the other schools have a level of support for athletics that our school does not have. Football and the spirit that it brings helps these other schools have a positive mentality about sports and participation. The Principal, AD and coaching staff at DSA love sports and the kids but the culture does not yet exist at the school where DSA is going to demand the recognition it deserves. That's sad. However, our duty as parents is to stay positive, support the team and the players because you know that we have always had a good bunch of kids there. And talent, no shortage of that. Four years ago I watched DSA handle Riverside in Summer league play. Led them by twenty, Riverside could not run with DSA. Then we slowed it down and 6'10 Mayer, 6'7 Hunt and 6'7 TJ Warren wore us down.

I've always said DSA should play at least two of the Pac 6 Schools, especialy HHS. It would create a rivalry that would bring in a lot of money for DSA and encourage school spirit. Also, a lot of kids at the Pac 6 schools don't want to sit on the bench on those teams and deal with the politics, many want to transfer to DSA and play just like some others have. That would make DSA a real threat to worry about. So things will get better, just stay positive.

I did see Bumphus play and he made one of those points while falling to the floor after being fouled by #44, as he punked faked him. GREAT SHOT!!

Carrboro and DSA had a good game. DSA got beat pretty bad. No 44 on Carrboro's team is really good and held his position down. I watched as players tried to get around him and play the ball. He placed alot of balls in the basket.

However, Bumphus did manage to get the ball in the basket 3 times, get 3 rebound, and 2 steels. He is a good player. He did all this in 3 min. Wonder what he would have done in 12? LOL

All the player on both teams were great.

Also of note, NCSSM made up for the 1-point OT loss they suffered to Granville Central in the first game of the season with a 6 point OT win. NCSSM held the lead for all of about 1 minute of the game, pushing the lead to multiple digits at multiple points with the largest lead of the game being 16. With one main player being back for the first time since that first game and another coming back soon, NCSSM could be tough down the stretch after a lot of early close games. Have 3 games in the span of 4 days coming up, could be telling.

I saw that game with DSA. Bumphus shot a nice fade on a 6'6 middle weight I was like wow. Most young men do not know how to shoot fades effectively. Or nevertheless knows when to shoot one at all. Bumphus got knocked to the floor 2x by big boy no 44 6'6 heavy weight, and 34 6'6 heavy weight but he did not let up and continued to work the boys in which both played forward positions. he was a thorn in their sides. They could not perform with him on the defense he was shutting them down.
Jason was awesome, I never seen the boy so aggressive and determined. He was a beast!! These two gentlemens are 5 and 6 men, both are first year varsity players. There are a future in these boys. These boys had jump ball and wasn't giving the ball up!! Awesome players
