Sasser Syndrome
Does anyone have any experience with helping someone get past the "throwing yips"? The Sasser Syndrome is named after former ML catcher Mackey Sasser. He all of a sudden could not throw the ball back to the pitcher. This is not as rare as some think. Most common in catchers. Most will hitch numerous times, before eventually flicking the ball back. It usually only affects this aspect of the position, but can be traumatic.
RE: Sasser Syndrome
Actually, this is more mental than physical. It is similar to people who stutter. When they cannot hear the stuttering stops. Once their bodies get used to speaking without the stuttering it becomes easier to speak. With Throwing it is a mental condition brought about by physical (eyesight) stimuli. Try having the catcher throw the ball with his eyes closed at first. Obviously, they wouldn't do this in a game, but once their bodies get used to throwing without the physical stimuli of direction it will subside quite a bit. I have used this for catchers teching them to throw to 2nd base. I called it the "Jedi" technique". It does help.

Tried that, tried throwing from knees, tried throwing hard, every conceivable approach. Doesn't affect "Pop" time, consistently 1.9 or better. Thanks though.
