Behind 25 points from N.C. State-bound Anthony "Cat" Barber, Hampton, Va., defeated Raleigh Broughton, 70-59, for third-place in the Summit Hospitality bracket of the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational.
Barber finished with 70 points in his three games in the HSOT. More importantly, along with 17 points from Jordan Baker and 15 from Cyonte Melvin, the future Wolfpack guard and his Crabbers (9-1) finished third in the tournament.
"I think our guys stepped up under a little adversity," Hampton assistant coach Eric Brown said.
"We bounced back from our first loss in a good while and we showed a lot of character today."
The hometown Capitals (9-3) only trailed by four points at the half but were outscored 21-11 in the third quarter. Broughton was led by 19 points from Devonte' Graham and 13 from Jamie Rucker.
"Congratulations to Hampton; they're definitely an excellent team," Caps coach Jeff Ferrell said.
"They're definitely not a one-player or one-person team. They beat us in every phase of the game today -- they out-hustled us and we didn't match their intensity. That's on me and we're going to get better at it."
