A number of area players have been selected to participate in Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge.
The roster, which was released Friday evening, is not complete. Telep, a recruiting analyst for ESPN who lives in Raleigh, traditionally leaves a few spots open for players who earn their way in during the state playoffs.
In its seventh year, the Carolina Challenge is a one-day camp made up of the top underclassmen in the state of North Carolina.
Seven area juniors have been selected to the event – Gary Clark (Clayton), Ricky Council (Northern Durham), Parker Fennema (Sanderson), Phillip Haynes (North Raleigh Christian), T.J. Evans (Apex), Cameron Gottfried (Broughton), and Chris Corchiani (Ravenscroft).
Brandon Ingram (Kinston), Julius Barnes (Garner), Austin Burnette (Cardinal Gibbons), Rob Brown (Millbrook), Quentin Jackson (Middle Creek), Brian Thornton (Chapel Hill), and Alston Thompson (Durham Academy) are local sophomores who have been selected.
Telep also selected four local freshmen to the event – Justice Kithcart (Riverside), Akeem Tate (Panther Creek), Juan Munoz (Panther Creek), and Ian Boyd (Apex).
The 2013 Carolina Challenge will be held at Ravenscroft School on Mar. 23.
