Apex avenged an earlier loss to Panther Creek on Thursday in a game that was postponed due to ice.
Both teams started out hot, Apex scored 18 first quarter points while Panther Creek scored 17.
But the Cougars began to pull away some in the second quarter. Apex outscored the Catamounts 15-12 going into halftime, taking a 33-29 advantage.
The third quarter proved to be the difference. Apex scored 20 points in the third quarter to take a nine-point lead into the final period and kept pace through the end of the game to seal the win.
T.J. Wells led Apex in scoring with 21 points. T.J. Evans added 15 points for the Cougars and Scott Greeson had 14.
Nubian Spann led Panther Creek with 19 points, and the two starting freshmen – Juan Munoz and Akeem Tate – scored 14 and 13 points respectively.
Panther Creek is now just one game ahead of Holly Springs for fifth place in the Tri-9 – the last automatic bid to the playoffs from the conference. The Catamounts will host Middle Creek, the No. 1 team in the conference, on Friday night.
Apex's next game will be at home on Friday against Athens Drive.
